I love you the best
I love my mom and I love my dad,
But I love you the best.
I love my dog, I love my cat,
But I love you the best.
I love birds and I love fish,
But I love you the best.

Story Pirates review by Leo S., age 8

6/16/12

I saw a show called THE DAY I GOT MY HEAD CAUGHT IN A BARSTOOL. It was about a kid who did everything that his dog did. It was a comedy with actors in costumes. It was a musical. I thought was funny that a kid would do what a dog would do.

Then we saw a show that another kid wrote who was in the theater watching the show. In fact, there were two authors in the audience who wrote their first stories and the Story Pirates performed them. The first one was called POOF POWER. It was about a girl who was running in the forest and saw a leprechaun and the leprechaun said “I can turn you into anything that you want to be.” She turned into many different animals like a horse, a dog, a lion, and then she turned back into herself. When she was a horse she jumped over fences and hills and then the Empire State building! As a dog, she played fetch a million times. As a lion, she couldn’t bite her nails — she could only lick her paws. She kind of got stuck as a lion but she found the leprechaun who told her “If you want to become a human again, you can never have the power to become an animal again” so she became a human and was much happier being her. It was funny.

Then we heard a story called CHICA THE HYENA. It was about a hyena that lived in a place called Picklemania. She went on vacation and on the plane when they were about to fly, the captain was counting down when they were going to take off, she got so excited that she screamed. The captain stopped the countdown and asked “what is going on??” She said, “sorry, I’m so excited!” The when they landed, he said “please keep your seat belts on” but she was so excited she took her seatbelt off that she started running off the plane. Then she started swimming in the ocean and got eaten by an octopus. She saw a penguin and all he said was “mee mee.” After she was in the octopus’ stomach, she started going down some slides in his body with the penguin 3 times. Then she got bored. Then she called her friend who was a pixie and told her that she was in an octopus’ stomach and needed help. The pixie said “me too!” and then they turned around and she was in the exact same octopus’ stomach! Then the penguin started talking and then they got out. It was a great story and creative.

The titles of the other stories were called: OREO THE BANANA AND SNAPPLE THE APPLE, I LIKE TO GO A LOT TO SCHOOL, LOVE and EMERGENCY PONCHO. Three of them were musicals and one of them was not.

At the end of the show, the Story Pirates asked the authors to come up on stage and tell them why they wrote their stories. One of them said that it was because their teacher wanted them to do a story about Ireland and another author said the reason she wrote a story about a hyena is because not that many people really focus on hyenas. And one of the authors said that she might make a sequel to PUFF POWER but it would be about someone who wanted to learn how to fly. The person who wrote CHICA THE HYENA said she might want to make a sequel to that story called CHICA THE HYENA GOES TO PANCAKE PALACE.

I think this Story Pirates show was the best one I’ve ever seen. I like The Story Pirates because they want creative kids to write stories and I’m creative too!
